Hello everyone!
I thought that I'd talk a bit more about knitting today. Herringbone again, it's in my life in a big way. Got it down to a T. This stitch was practiced as much as I could last week, in different woolz and needlez. The above is some lovely wool which I bought from Enfield Women's Institute last year at the Knitting & Stitching show in Alexandra Palace, it's really tweedy with so many different colours! The needles were small but gave a loose knit for the wool's thickness, which is nice enough to let the colours shine!
Below is some Pattons(Diploma) which is 55% WOOL 25% ACRYLIC & 20% NYLON, really soft DK wool in a lovely heathery red, this was knit on size 10 needles (glittery ones!) and was very stretchy and thick at the same time.
But then...

Marco bought me 4 giant balls of some Woocraft Huggy which is half wool and half acrylic and so very soft. Oh, and from Bradford! (His home town/near where we used to live) and I have been wanting and wanting to knit something special with it since bought me it for Christmas two and a half years ago!! I have two balls of this cream colour and two of a darker brown. I tried this colour in the swatch on size 4 and a half needles and really liked it.
Below is the flag of victory and favouritism!
And so, I began making a cowl on my circular needles which are about size 5. I was inspired to do a cowl from this pattern, but have not followed any of it!
I cast on about 120/130 stitches and started at my knitting club last Wednesday and have been knitting on my work commute (I read on the bus and tube and then knit on the train) and a little bit at work when it's quiet and have only managed a little bit so far at home, I've been tracking my average time on it and so far it's just around 5 hours.
You may notice that 130 stitches is not big enough for a cowl.. Ahh you would be right, it would mearly make a collar, but I shall knit a section of about 70 stitches in the darker brown colour that I have in the same wool and have it as a feature in my cowl. Like one big block stripe. Always thinking.
I'm looking forward to wearing it!
Anyone else underway with a ready for winter project??
O_o

WOW! I love it already! It looks so cozy for winter. I'm currently knitting a simple two cable button-up pouch (with a hood) for Quentin. So he can be snuggled tight this fall and winter. I can't wait to see more pictures!
ReplyDeleteI love this stitch! I am on the verge (literally, sewing it together as we speak) of finally finishing that blasted pink top I've been knitting for what seems like my entire life, and when it's done I've promised myself I am going to learn to knit socks...I bet a pair of herringbone socks would look most snazzy indeed!
ReplyDeleteYour knitting looks amazing :D.
ReplyDeleteMy friend taught me to knit last week, I've been trying to get a hang of it! I just want to be good enough to make pretty stuff now!
